SCHOLARSHIP -MASTER OF ARTS IN HISTORY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF DAR ES SALAAM



The Department of History at the University of Dar es Salaam is currently hosting a three year (2019/2020-2021/2022) research project entitled Collaborative Provenance Research on the Collections from Tanzania at the National Museum and House of Culture in Dar es Salaam and Ethnological Museum in Berlin. The project is generously funded by Gerda Henkel Foundation. As part of its pertinent activities, the project seeks to recruit one candidate who will pursue the M.A. (History) programme (by coursework and dissertation) offered by the Department of History starting from the 2020/2021 academic year. Upon successful completion of the coursework, the candidate will be required to conduct research and write a dissertation on a theme related to the project.

Scholarship Eligibility:
The scholarship is open to candidates who fulfill the following criteria:
(i) Must be a citizen of Tanzania;
(ii) Must provide proof of admission to the M.A. (History) programme at the University of Dar es Salaam;
(iii) Must not be older than 30 years at the time of application;
(iv) Must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.8 or above obtained from any of the following programmes offered by the University of Dar es Salaam: B.A. (History), B.A.(History and Political Science), B.A. (Archaeology and History), or B.A. (Education) with History as one of the teaching subjects; or similar qualification from a reputable university as recognized by University of Dar es Salaam Senate;

(v) Must be prepared to accept duties as an assistant to the project’s research team;
(vi) Must be willing to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural settings; and
(vii) Must be ready to begin studies during the 2020/2021 academic year.

How to Apply
An application package submitted electronically should include the following items:
(i) An application letter showing motivation to pursue an M.A. (History) programme and to conduct research related to the project’s thematic interests
(ii) A copy of undergraduate academic transcript
(iii) Copies of ordinary and advanced level secondary school certificates
(iv) A copy of birth certificate, and
(v) One recommendation letter from a person familiar with the applicant’s academic achievement, character and personality
